Volunteer Screening (VSS) - All Staff

Rep - Submit with Volunteer Registration Form by June 30

House League - Due by November 1

Volunteer Sector Screening is mandatory for all volunteers and staff age 17 and over

Volunteers age 12 - 16 must submit a Criminal Record Check

• checks must not be more than 6 months old
• VSS is required every 4 years

Do you need to do a VSS? Check here  for a current list of approved volunteers.  If your name is not on the list, you must do a VSS.

NEW *** If you are on the list, you must complete and submit a CYGHA Criminal Offence Declaration form. Click here for the form. ***

The forms must be completed by the volunteer and submitted in person to the YRP with a fee of $20.  If you live outside of York Region, contact your local police department about VSS.  Return original, completed VSS forms to the hockey office.

Note: The RCMP system now queries the date of birth and sex only. If the date of birth matches the date of birth of a person of the same sex that may have been pardoned of a sexual offence, the applicant must submit fingerprints.  The fingerprint fee will be waived with a letter confirming the applicant as a volunteer with the league.

Speak Out - All Staff

All staff must have completed a Speak Out course and received a PRS (Prevention Services) number.  (does not expire)

If you have a Speak Out/PRS card from the OMHA, fill out the form at the link below and fax or scan and email it with a copy of your OMHA card to the OWHA to be issued an OWHA PRS card.

Coaches

All Rep head coaches should have a minimum Development level coaching certificate.
All House League coaches from atom up should have minimum Coach Stream.
Note: Coach Certifications expire after 3 years.

50% of the cost of a coach clinic is subsidized by the league. Submit a receipt to the office for reimbursement.(for currently rostered coaches only)

If you do a refresher course, a new OWHA number is not required. Email the office with your new expiry date.

Trainers

A female trainer is mandatory. All trainers must have a current HTCP certificate. (good for 3 years)
100% of the cost of a trainer clinic is subsidized by the league.  Submit a receipt to the office for reimbursement. (for currently rostered trainers only)
